To celebrate it’s 3rd anniversary, Osaka Ohsho introduced new fusion dishes that will interest your mind and your taste buds. :)
P.S. Sorry for my poor blogging skills. I got lazy to take a photo of all the dishes because it was too crowded that night. But, I promise to make a very honest review to make up for my lack of photos. :D
Chinese New Year is usually celebrated with typical Chinese traditions like dragon dances, eating tikoy, displaying fruits & sweets and lighting fireworks. In additional to the usual, SM Supermalls set a new tradition of displaying Chinese artworks, paintings and painted porcelain plates inside their malls. For 22 years, the Chan Lim Family of Artists and Students have been displaying their works in different SM Malls every Chinese New Year. I believe they have been chosen for this occasion because the Chan Lim family is one of the few remaining notable Chinese brush painting artists in the country. This year, as Chan Lim celebrates its 80th birth year, they are once again displaying their beautiful artworks and paintings at SM City North Edsa.
To open the exhibit and start off the celebration of the Chinese New Year, the Chan Lim Family of Artists and Students conducted a workshop at SM City North Edsa The Block Atrium last January 15, 2017. Before teaching us how to paint, Sir Alex demonstrated a live painting for the audience to get an idea of how it’s done.
What started as something like this…
Turned into this! It’s amazing how he did it in less than 10 minutes! :)
What I noticed with Chinese brush painting is, the art really comes out from the strokes of the brushes. The direction and the angle of the brush and the strokes of the hand play a big role in this artwork. There are no outlines or pre-drawn pictures; it’s all based on what will come out from the flow of your hand.
It’s quite difficult at first, but you will be amazed at what a few strokes can turn out to be. If you’re interested to learn about Chinese brush painting, art classes are conducted in the Chan Lim family studio located in Pasig City. You guys can view their artworks at www.chanlim.com and you can contact them at firstname.lastname@example.org if you want to attend their classes. :)
Here’s my finished product. Sana hindi kayo nagexpect. Hahaha! :)
Robin Padilla, a close friend of the Chan Lim family, was also there to celebrate with them. :)
You can check the Chan Lim Family of Artists and Students’ exhibit at SM City North Edsa The Block Atrium from January 15 to February 12, 2017. More than 300 artworks done in porcelain plates, scrolls and oil paintings are displayed! If you’re planning to know you’re “luck” this year, you can also check the Chinese horoscope predictions that are displayed at SM City North Edsa The Block as well. :)
Xin Nian Kuai Le, Everyone! :)
